Bullying Prevention Toolkit Designed by AIR Now Available Online Through U.S. Department of Education
Washington, D.C. – A comprehensive training toolkit on bullying prevention and intervention designed by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) for the U.S. Department of Education is now available online at no cost. Published in two parts, “Understanding and Intervening Bullying Behavior” and “Creating a Supportive Classroom Climate,” this toolkit helps educators identify, address, and prevent bullying behavior through a series of workshops and exercises.
AIR developed the toolkit in partnership with Vision Training Associates for the Safe and Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Center, which AIR operates under the support of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students. The National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) are also collaborators.
“Bullying affects attendance, learning, and student behavior. Teachers often want to play a role in preventing and addressing bullying, but may not know how to do it or may not get the support in doing so,” says David Osher, a bullying prevention expert and a Vice President at AIR. “This toolkit is another example of AIR and the Safe and Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Center working with end-users — in this case the AFT and NEA to help develop and disseminate an excellent product that teachers and schools will find to be useful and useable.”
Through the two-part toolkit, classroom teachers can get information on how to identify bullying behavior, respond to bullying episodes and foster a supportive classroom and school environment to prevent bullying.
