Garet and Yoon Speak at NSDC’s Launch of Research Effort

Dr. Michael Garet and Dr. Kwang Suk Yoon of the American Institutes for Research (AIR) are featured speakers at a February 4 event hosted by the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) to launch a multi-year research project aimed at measuring the effectiveness of teacher professional learning at the state level. The effort is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MetLife Foundation, NSDC, and the Wallace Foundation.

The event includes the release of a new report by Linda Darling-Hammond and researchers from the Stanford University School Redesign Network, Professional Learning in the Learning Profession: A Status Report on Teacher Development in the United States and Abroad.

Garet, an AIR vice president, and Yoon, a principal research scientist, will share their expertise in professional development for educators, including student and teacher outcomes. Other invited speakers include Darling Hammond, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Gene Wilhoit, executive director of the Council for Chief State School Officers.

The 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. event will be held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C.
