Diversity’s Role in Student Achievement

Segregated schools are not confined to the south and black students. A recent UCLA study found that black students are most segregated in New York, Illinois and California. Latino students are also being isolated, significantly more than black students. AIR and NASBE hosted a conversation on June 9, 2015 to discuss what’s known about how students perform relative to school diversity, opportunity gaps in public education and the factors that impact them, and how states and districts can work to close these gaps.
