AIR senior research analyst Jeff Poirier will co-facilitate a workshop, “Preventing Bullying and Fostering Positive Learning Conditions for Students Who Are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning: Resources and Strategies,” at the 16th Annual Conference on Advancing School Mental Health in Charleston, South Carolina, September 22-24, 2011.

The conference - intended for counselors, educators, family members, family therapists, health educators, nurses, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other youth-serving professionals - is one of the nation's largest school mental health conference and offers numerous opportunities to network and learn more about best practice in school mental health.

Poirier’s workshop, which he will co-facilitate with Dr. Rebekha Byrd of East Tennessee State University, will focus on enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to effectively serve and create a safe environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) students. Participants will also hear about a district's bullying prevention efforts for all students and will receive a toolkit CD with more than 70 LGBTQ resources.
