Leveraging Azure OpenAI for Intelligent Content Solutions
On August 15, 2024, at the 2024 Drupal GovCon, the Technology Solutions – Applied Software Engineering – Drupal team will present our work at AIR on integrating Microsoft Azure OpenAI with the Drupal Content Management System to enhance digital services for government clients. These prototyping initiatives focus on improving inclusivity, accessibility, and user experience while maintaining strict security standards.

In our latest prototypes, we leverage generative AI to transform content generation and enhancement, including revising drafts to improve language consistency. Our content summarization functionality, powered by the latest GPT-4 model, condenses lengthy content into concise summaries, making complex information more accessible. We demonstrate how AI synthesizes comment threads and forum posts, extracting key insights and trends. To further enhance accessibility, we’re using AI to provide multilingual translations, ensuring that non-English speaking communities have access to critical information. Automated content classification is another crucial feature, allowing efficient content organization through AI-generated or predefined taxonomies.
Content moderation and quality assurance are key focus areas for our clients. Our AI-driven modules and prompts assist in reviewing and moderating user-generated content, flagging potentially harmful or inappropriate material for further review. We have also implemented AI-powered recommendations to enhance readability, accessibility, and SEO, ensuring our websites are compliant, user-friendly, and accessible to diverse audiences.
Our team is exploring advanced search and discovery capabilities within Drupal, leveraging AI to better interpret natural language searches and deliver more accurate, relevant results. AI-powered content discovery functionality further personalizes the user experience by recommending related content and services based on individual behavior and preferences.
Accessibility and inclusivity remain central to our development efforts. We are developing AI features that automatically transcribe audio and video content, making information more accessible to hearing-impaired users. Our AI components also adapt content for users with varying needs, such as simplifying text for those with cognitive disabilities, ensuring our digital services are truly inclusive.
Security is a top priority in our development efforts. All data processing for these prototypes occurs using FedRAMP-certified Azure services, ensuring that data is protected with strict access controls and encryption protocols. We also conduct regular security audits and penetration testing to ensure ongoing compliance with federal standards.
Our work, while still in the prototyping stage, is paving the way for more inclusive and accessible public sector websites that effectively disseminate information to a broader and more diverse audience. As we continue to refine these solutions, our focus remains on ensuring that these digital services meet the highest standards of security and compliance while serving the diverse needs of the public.
